The Ural Plant of Deicing Materials (UZPM), a leading Russian manufacturer of modern anti-ice products under the Bionord brand, has started supplying the Bionord Universal composition for the winter maintenance of a section of the M-12 ‘Vostok’ federal highway in the Republic of Tatarstan.
The M-12 high-speed highway, which connected Moscow and Kazan, was opened in December 2023 and allows drivers to cover the distance between the two cities in six and a half hours. The highway runs through the Moscow, Vladimir, and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Chuvashia, and Tatarstan. In the future, it will become part of the ‘Russia’ transport corridor – the country’s largest infrastructure project, which will connect St. Petersburg and Vladivostok with a high-speed motorway spanning twelve thousand kilometres.
The Bionord Universal composition is manufactured using the ‘Single Granule’ technology, which ensures uniform distribution of active components and predictable treatment outcome. The material starts working within twenty minutes after application, maintains efficiency at temperatures as low as –30°C, and its consumption rate is seven times less than that of sand and salt mixes. Anticorrosive additives minimize the impact on metal and concrete infrastructure components.
“The Volga region is characterized by the continental climate featuring sharp temperature fluctuations. In winter, thaws often give way to cold snaps down to –30 °C, and fog and rime are quite frequent. In such conditions, traditional sand and salt mixes perform inconsistently: their efficiency drops during severe frosts, and during zero-crossing transitions, they fail to prevent re-icing. On a high-speed highway where cars travel at speeds up to one hundred and thirty kilometres per hour, the quality of pavement treatment directly affects the safety of drivers and passengers. That is why it is so critical to use deicing agents capable of rapidly eliminating ice and ensuring road grip under any weather conditions," noted Artem Dovzhenko, Manager for Working with Federal and Regional Roads at UZPM Trading House LLC.
Today, Bionord deicing materials are used in more than fifty regions of Russia at various facilities, ranging from federal highways and airports to city streets and areas surrounding residential buildings. The entire product line is manufactured at the Ural Plant of Deicing Materials, whose main production facilities are located in Krasnokamsk, Perm Krai. The enterprise’s products comply with the requirements of GOST R 58427-2020, are included in the ‘100 Best Goods of Russia’ registry, and their environmental safety is verified by the state environmental appraisal.
