The Ural Plant of Deicing Materials (UZPM), a leading Russian manufacturer of modern anti-ice products under the Bionord brand, has started supplying the Bionord Universal deicing composition for the maintenance of the new toll bridge crossing over the Ob River in Novosibirsk. The traffic across the bridge, located along the axis of Ippodromskaya Street, was opened on December 15.
The bridge connects Stantsionnaya and Ippodromskaya streets, providing a direct link between the left and right banks. The crossing has a capacity of up to seventy thousand vehicles per day, which will relieve traffic on the Oktyabrsky and Dimitrovsky bridges.
For bridge structures, selecting deicing materials with low corrosivity is of paramount importance. The Bionord Universal composition fully complies with GOST R 58427-2020: its corrosion rate stands at 0.4 mg/cm² per day, which is nearly three times lower than that of technical salt. The material is manufactured using the ‘Single Granule’ technology and begins to take effect within twenty minutes of application, maintains efficiency at temperatures as low as –30 °C, while its consumption rate is seven times more economical than that of sand and salt mixes.
“Bridges are subjected to constant temperature fluctuations and dynamic loads, making their structures highly vulnerable to corrosion. Technical salt, with its high corrosive activity, accelerates the degradation of metal elements, reduces structural strength, and shortens its service life. The use of materials with low corrosive impact is not just a recommendation, but a mandatory condition for preserving the durability of such facilities,” UZPM noted.
Bionord deicing materials are currently supplied to more than fifty regions of Russia. The entire product line is manufactured at the Urals Deicing Materials Plant with main production facilities are located in Krasnokamsk, Perm Krai. The products meet the requirements of GOST R 58427-2020, belong to the fourth hazard class, and their environmental safety is verified by a positive conclusion of the State Environmental Appraisal. The materials are also included in the ‘100 Best Goods of Russia’ registry.
