On February 1 and 2, 2024, Irkutsk hosted the 4th international workshop-conference: Siberian Roads. About 600 participants of the conference included representatives of the Ministry of Transport, road construction, research and development organizations, as well as federal customers from various regions. The topic of the conference was the “Innovations and Experience in the Road Construction”. The conference has been held for the sixth time and is the largest event in the industry as to the development of the road industry in Siberia and the Far East.

During the “Practical Solutions for Top-Quality and Safe Roads and Bridges” session, Rudolf Ponomarev, Deputy Director of UZPM Trading House LLC made a report dedicated to the modern deicing materials and standards for road maintenance in settlements.

“Over the last 10-15 years, in Russia, the number of automobiles has almost tripled and traffic intensity has grown significantly. Therefore, the requirements concerning road cleaning are becoming more and more stringent. Sand and salt mixtures used before can no longer meet these requirements. Moreover, about 40 percent of the sand and salt mixture dispersed on roads remains on the streets. In spring, when it is still cold, but there is no snow any more, it easily gets into the air. Therefore, the future belongs to safe, environmentally friendly, money-saving, and completely soluble deicing materials,” Rudolf Ponomarev noticed. “However, the most efficient measures against winter slipperiness require the right selection of a deicing agent taking into account the weather, traffic intensity, and road surface condition, as well as the compliance with the process of the use of agents, their consumption, and application.”
