The Ural Plant of Deicing Materials (UZPM), a leading Russian manufacturer of modern anti-ice products under the Bionord brand, participated in the 19th International Forum Transport of Russia. The company presented its products as part of a joint exhibition of Perm Krai.

The forum is traditionally held as part of the ‘Transport Week’, an annual business event that comprises an international exhibition, a series of industry conferences, and meetings between the top executives of the transport complex. This year, the event gathered more than 4,500 participants, including representatives of federal agencies, regional road services, transport enterprises, and manufacturers of specialized machinery.

At the forum, UZPM presented its liquid Bionord deicing agent – the company’s latest development designed for urban infrastructure. Unlike traditional sand-salt mixes, the compound begins to work immediately upon application, forming a protective film on the road surface that melts existing ice and prevents new icing from forming. The material is completely safe for tiled, stone, and concrete pavements and does not clog storm sewage systems. Liquid Bionord is already being used by the road services of Yaroslavl and the Moscow Region.

Along with liquid agents, UZPM presented specialized solutions for the mining industry aimed at addressing typical challenges faced by the enterprises in this sector. To deal with the freezing of bulk cargo during winter, Bionord Quarry was developed: the compound covers ore and coal particles with an elastic film, maintaining their mobility even in extreme frosts. The application of this material prevents situations where compacted ore requires labour-intensive unloading involving specialized machinery and production process shutdowns. The second product, Bionord Antidust, deal with the issue of dust on haul roads. The material binds fine soil particles, reducing the concentration of suspended solids in the air by two to three times. Industrial trials have proven the effectiveness of these formulations: Bionord Quarry maintains the flowability of materials throughout the entire transport cycle, while the use of Bionord Antidust reduces water consumption for haul road dust suppression by 70% and lowers undercarriage wear on machinery.

All the products in the Bionord line possess significant advantages over traditional sand-salt mixes. Solid agents are manufactured using the ‘Single Granule’ technology, where a precisely calculated ratio of active components in each particle ensures consistent performance throughout the entire batch and uniform application. Mechanical mixtures of sand and salt with their chaotic distribution of components cannot achieve a similar result. In turn, liquid Bionord demonstrates high cost-efficiency, requiring seven times less material to treat the same area compared to traditional alternatives.

“The development of our product line is built on a continuous dialogue with the market. Liquid agents were developed in response to requests from municipalities that needed formulations with the least possible impact on urban infrastructure. Specialized products for the mining industry were developed after a deep dive into the production specifics of our partners. The forum venue is valuable for the opportunity to meet customers directly, hear their current needs, and adjust the direction of our development. Our participation as part of the Perm Krai exhibition is particularly meaningful to us. The region's scientific school and production base became the foundation that allowed the enterprise to grow to a federal scale and ensure safety on winter roads across the country," noted Evgeny Nemirovsky, Advisor on Development to UZPM General Director.

The footprint of UZPM products application covers more than 50 regions of Russia. The enterprise’s production facilities are located in Krasnokamsk (Perm Krai) and Dolgoprudny (Moscow Region). Bionord materials are used for the maintenance of federal highways, airport runways, urban infrastructure, and industrial facilities. The products comply with the requirements of GOST R 58427-2020, hold positive conclusions from the state environmental appraisal, are included in the ‘100 Best Goods of Russia’ registry, and are certified under the ‘PROMTECHSTANDARD’ and ‘ECOLOCERTIK’ systems.
