The Ural Plant of Deicing Materials (UZPM), a leading Russian manufacturer of modern anti-ice products under the Bionord brand, has presented a new business segment at the 28th International Exhibition ‘Chemistry-2025’: the production of high-purity salts (sodium chlorides). The product line includes specialized products tailored for various industrial sectors and public utilities.
To produce these specialized salts, UZPM utilizes its own raw material base – an underground deposit of mineral salts. The enterprise’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre, in cooperation with specialized institutes, developed a technology for deep raw material purification, which allowed the company to launch the production of several products simultaneously: ‘Extra’ grade sodium chloride for the food and pharmaceutical industries, tablet salt for water treatment systems, and ultra-pure salt for electrolysis processes.
‘Extra’ grade salt, with a primary substance content of at least 99.7%, meets the requirements of food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. Uniform particle size distribution (PSD) and minimal impurity content guarantee the stability of technological processes at consumer enterprises. The product is in high demand among the manufacturers of food products, medicinal products, and cosmetics.
The tablet salt is specifically designed for automated water treatment and water softening systems. The compressed tablets dissolve at a constant rate, produce no dust, and retain their shape during long-term storage. The standardized tablet size ensures uninterrupted operation of dosing equipment at industrial enterprises and public utility facilities.
Sodium chloride for electrolysis is an ultra-pure salt designed to meet the strict requirements of modern electrolysers. The product is manufactured using natural brines vacuum evaporation method that ensures the exact purity necessary for chlorine and caustic soda production at chemical enterprises. The use of this salt allows for a fivefold reduction of sludge formation in electrolysers, cuts brine preparation costs by 74%, and decreases sulfate ion content by 30%. UZPM manufactures three particle size distribution fractions tailored for different types of industrial equipment.
The development of these production technologies was conducted in cooperation with leading scientific institutes, which provided methodological support for purification processes and the establishment of a quality control system. Multi-stage testing covers all phases from initial brine analysis to the inspection of finished batches. The products are supplied in 25-50 kg bags for retail and small wholesale buyers, and in 1,000 kg big bags for industrial customers.
“The production of specialized salts is a logical step in the development of the enterprise. Our accumulated experience of working with chlorides, combined with our own raw material base, has allowed us to expand production into related industries. While deicing materials are primarily in demand during the winter season, high-purity salts ensure year-round supplies. This addition to our core product portfolio opens up new opportunities for long-term cooperation with enterprises across various industrial sectors,” noted Dmitry Pylev, UZPM General Director.
